GRAEME HODGSON

CERAMICS

Wheel-thrown functional ware for the house, table and garden

About

I am a studio potter based in Southampton, Hampshire, and have been making, exhibiting and selling ceramics for more than two decades, employing local materials such as wood ash, stone and clays to produce most of my glazes and slips. I mix my own clay using a stoneware body from a clay pit in Cornwall combined with a red stoneware which has a high iron content. For the table and kitchenware I combine a stoneware mix with a brushed porcelain slip and a transparent glaze: my own take on the ancient Japanese techniques of Kohiki and Hakeme ware.
